FSEZ1216 — Primary-Side-Regulation PWM Integrated Power MOSFET April 2009 FSEZ1216 — Primary-Side-Regulation PWM Integrated Power MOSFET Features Description The primary-side PWM integrated Power MOSFET, ƒ Constant-Voltage (CV) and Constant-Current (CC) FSEZ1216, significantly simplifies power supply design Control without Secondary-Feedback Circuitry that requires CV and CC regulation capabilities. ƒ Green Mode: Frequency Reduction at Light-Load FSEZ1216 controls the output voltage and current precisely only with the information in the primary side of ƒ Fixed PWM Frequency at 42kHz with Frequency the power supply, not only removing the output current Hopping to Reduce EMI sensing loss, but also eliminating all secondary ƒ Cable Voltage Drop Compensation in CV Mode feedback circuitry. ƒ Low Startup Current: 10μA The green-mode function with a low startup current (10µA) maximizes the light load efficiency so the power ƒ Low Operating Current: 3.5mA supply can meet stringent standby power regulations. ƒ Peak-Current-Mode Control in CV Mode Compared with conventional secondary side regulation ƒ Cycle-by-Cycle Current Limiting approach, the FSEZ1216 can reduce total cost, component count, size, and weight, while ƒ V Over-Voltage Protection with Auto-Restart DD simultaneously increasing efficiency, productivity, and ƒ V Under-Voltage Lockout (UVLO) DD system reliability. ƒ Gate Output Maximum Voltage Clamped at 18V A typical output CV/CC characteristic envelope is shown in Figure 1. ƒ Fixed Over-Temperature Protection with Latch ƒ DIP-8 Package Available Applications ƒ Battery Chargers for Cellular Phones, Cordless Phones, PDA, Digital Cameras, Power Tools ƒ Replaces Linear Transformer and RCC SMPS ƒ Offline High Brightness (HB) LED Drivers Figure 1.
