General DescriptionThe DS36C279isa low power differential bus/line trans-
ceiver designedto meet the requirementsof RS-485 Stan-
dardfor multipoint data transmission.In additionitis com-
patible with TIA/EIA-422-B.
The sleep mode feature automatically putsthe deviceina
power saving mode when both the driver and receiver are
disabled.†† The deviceis idealfor usein power conscious
applications wherethe device maybe disabledfor extended
periodsof time.
The driver and receiver outputs feature TRI-STATE® capa-
bility. The driver outputs operate over the entire common
mode rangeof −7Vto +12V. Bus contentionor fault situa-
tions that cause excessive power dissipation within the de-
viceare handledbya thermal shutdown circuit, which forces
the driver outputs intoa high impedance state.
The receiver incorporatesafail safe circuit which guarantees high output state whenthe inputs areleft open.†
The DS36C279Tis fully specified over the industrial tem-
perature range (−40˚Cto +85˚C).
