General Description

Usingan innovative, patented multistep* conversion tech-
nique, the 10-bit ADC10061, ADC10062, and ADC10064
CMOS analog-to-digital converters offer sub-microsecond
conversion timesyet dissipatea maximumof only 235 mW.
The ADC10061, ADC10062, and ADC10064 performa
10-bit conversionin two lower-resolution “flashes”, thus
yieldinga fast A/D without the cost, power dissipation, and
other problems associated with true flash approaches. The
ADC10061is pin-compatible with the ADC1061 but much
faster, thus providinga convenient upgrade pathfor the
ADC1061.
The analog input voltageto the ADC10061, ADC10062, and
ADC10064is sampled and heldbyan internal sampling
circuit. Input signalsat frequencies fromdcto over 200 kHz
can thereforebe digitized accurately withoutthe needforan
external sample-and-hold circuit.
The ADC10062 and ADC10064 includea “speed-up” pin.
Connectingan external resistor between thispin and ground
reducesthe typical conversion timetoas littleas 350ns with
onlya small increasein linearity error.
For easeof interfaceto microprocessors, the ADC10061,
ADC10062, and ADC10064 have been designedto appeara memory locationorI/O port withoutthe needfor exter-
nal interface logic.
