General Description
These 4-bit magnitude comparators perform comparisonof
straight binaryor BCD codes. Three fully-decoded decisions
about two, 4-bit words(A,B)are made andare externally
availableat three outputs. These devicesare fully expand-
abletoany numberofbits without external gates. Wordsof
greater length maybe comparedby connecting compara-
torsin cascade.TheAlB,AkB,andAeB outputsofa
stage handling less-significant bitsare connectedto thecor-
responding inputsofthe next stage handling more-signifi-
cant bits.The stage handlingthe least-significantbits must
havea high-level voltage appliedtotheAeB input. The
cascading pathis implemented with onlya two-gate-level
delayto reduce overall comparison timesfor long words.
